1*15*2010

I've been quite the blog slacker lately because whenever I think about blogging I think about how I need to get my blurb blog book editing done so I can print it off. Well, I finally finished it two nights ago, so I can get back to normal blogging.

One of my New Years resolutions is to take Reese outside for at least 30 minutes a day. It is easy to just stay in side all day when it is so frigidly cold and only go outside to get in the car or go from the car to the grocery store, etc. So we will be taking either a walk or doing some sort of outdoor activity everyday. Both Reese and I are so much happier if we get some time outdoors.

The other day we just walked around in our yard. She loved running on the snow packed ground, but found it was quite slippery. Shortly after these pictures we had to go inside and put her mittens on because she kept falling and her hands were starting to freeze.

Reese had her 1 year check up yesterday. She is somewhere between 17 lbs 4 oz and 17 lbs 7 oz. (5th percentile)The nurse weighed her on multiple scales just to make sure she was really that light. She is. This girl is non-stop active and eats like a horse (like full pbj's [with two slices of bread] for lunch plus a bottle of veggies, and a whole piece of cinnamon toast, a bottle of fruit, and some of my cereal for breakfast) but is still burning more calories than she is consuming so we have to lace all her meals with lots of fat and calories now. We now have to add butter, cream cheese, coconut milk, etc to her meals and drinks. This morning she had rice cereal made with whole milk and maple syrup for added calories plus some whole milk mixed with apple juice to drink. Yum yum ??
Reese is 28 1/2 inches tall (50th percentile) and her head is 55th percentile.
She is SO full of energy! We LOVE her to death! I'm still in awe at how much love I can have for her. She makes my life so happy!

so when is Reese's birthday exactly? she already had it? I'm excited to feed Tula whole milk and cream... haha she'll be so excited.
It's crazy how babies get cabin fever... Tula is so much more happy when she gets a trip outdoors as well.

Ya an outdoor play date! Kari Ann said we should all go to the Bean Museum. Have you taken Reese yet? I think Tula is at the age where she'd actually get it and like it.
We should got with Kari Ann, Shanda and Tammi. With all the kids of course!
and whoever else...?

I think it is just fine that she is that light. I'm actually pretty opinionated on the whole lacing food with fat and calories thing.
All my siblings and I were below the 25th percentile - and quite a few of us were at 5 percent, like Reese - and the doctor told us to do the same thing. My parents didn't do it. Sure they gave us cream cheese on bagels and stuff, but putting butter
(etc.) in everything - no way. We have all turned out just fine - both of my brothers are over 6 feet and I am 5'8" (and overweight)and my sister (aka "Annie-rexic" because she was so skinny) is 5'9" and not too skinny. Meanwhile, I had a cousin who was also in the 5th percentile and his parents followed the doctor's advice. He got used to eating high-calorie, high-fat foods and when he was about 10 years old he started to gain tons of weight because he didn't want to stop eating those types of food. The church wouldn't let him go on a mission until he had lost weight.
A food I would recommend feeding her that is healthy and loaded with fiber and protein, as well as having a good amount of calories with some fat, is quinoa. They sell big bags of it at Costco. You can cook it in dishes instead of using rice and it's really tasty. Also, yogurt is super healthy and you can give her the full-fat kind, which won't be hard to transition off to low or non-fat yogurt one day.
I'm sorry if I'm going over the top on this, but as I explained, my personal experience with this advice has given me quite the opinion.

I can't believe she is small but Lydia always was but its wierd having a boy that is 18 lbs and is only 4 months old. But they are lots of fun. I am glad you are making a goal of getting out at least 30 minutes a day thats a smart idea. I should do that but we will see. LOL

I love how much you love being outside. I love baby sitting Chels and Eli because they are totally the same way - they always want to be outside. I love it. Ps, I NEED to come see you - SOON!!
